JEM - Feeding the Hungry
Greetings Brethren:
The following is a pictorial report on the 39,000 lbs. of dried vegetable soup mix supplied by 'Hunger Plus' and ‘Gleanings for the Hungry’ and ‘Feeding the Nations’ for distribution to several city and rural village feeding programs in the Region of San Luis in Sonora, Mexico.
On behalf of ‘Jerusalem Evangelical Ministries’, I want to express our sincere gratitude to our precious partners for this high quality food product that will feed numerous poverty stricken children, teens and adults who are experiencing very desperate living conditions in Northern Mexico.
#1 Pictures – The food delivery of dried vegetable soup was trucked to Yuma, Arizona and was unloaded and stored at the ‘I Care’ warehouse.

#2 Pictures - The barrels of food were reloaded at the Yuma warehouse by Mexican church pastors and volunteers. The food was then transported to San Luis, Mexico for distribution to several city and rural feeding locations for the poor. Flatbed trailers, church vans, and a large cube van truck were used to transport the food. Lisi Porchas, our JEM Missions Co-ordinator, supervised the entire operation.
#3 Pictures - The pictures to follow show food being distributed to the large Deserto Comunidad (Desert Community) immediately south of the City of San Luis. These people are called paracaidas (parachuters) and have been moving in rapidly from the southern regions of Mexico. They are poverty stricken people who are barely existing in a very unfavorable environment. They build make-shift shelters of any material that they can find like cardboard, pallet wood, tarp, tires, and items they find abandoned in the desert or at the dump, etc.). Some will inhabit old decrepit trailers that have been dumped in the desert even when they are torn in sections. The government has installed ground pipe faucets in spaced areas, but the water must be boiled because of its poor quality. There is electricity in a few sections of the desert, but the majority cannot afford such a luxury. Many cook by open fire and others by propane camp stoves. The children must walk a considerable distance to the northern city limits of San Luis in order to attend school.
As Lisi was supervising the distribution of food in this desert area, she came upon children raising their hands saying, “Do you have a piece of bread for us?”. Fortunately, by the Grace of the Lord, and our precious partnering organizations, we had something nutritious for them and their families to eat.
There are a few pastors that we have come alongside of who have worked in this desert community, and we are trusting that our financial
and material resources will increase in the near future to enable us to come alongside many more. You will see an example of a church meeting place in a picture below. We really need to improve these church structures. It is an extremely noble and sacrificial work for any pastoral family to live and minister in such an environment.

#4 Pictures - The following pictures are some examples of food distribution by our church pastors that occurred in several rural villages in the region of San Luis.
- Pastor Eduardo Saenz is shown distributing food in the Village of Cheque. Later, Brother Eduardo did the same in the Village of Indivisio
which recently experienced a damaging earthquake.

- Pastor Ernulfo (man with the cap and glasses) is shown with several young people and adults who are helping him distribute food to the poor in the Village of Isilitas. Brother Ernulfo is a wonderful teacher of the Gospel. He has an evangelical team that will be distributing food to the poor as they minister in another village.
- The pictures below are of Pastor Adan Garcia Ruic and his wife Anna Maria. You will also see a picture of Anna and Lisi, our missions co-ordinator standing together. In the background you will see a group of Christian brothers from Russia. They are there to finish work on the building you see them in. This building is in a section of the large Deserto Community and will serve as a church meeting place, a shelter for the abandoned, and a residence for missionaries. Pastor Adan has been chosen the pastor of this work and desires to partner with us. He received four barrels of food which he is distributing to a nearby village and to the desperately poor in the immediate area of the desert community.
The Russians Are Coming! And We Sure Do Need them! Praise The Lord!
- The following pictures show several children with Lisi Porchas, our missions co-ordinator, eating the vegetable soup. These children are from the Village of Escondida and the Lagunitas area. We have many children in these places and the families were very thankful for the food they received.
